St Ann Catholic Church

Since 1955, St Ann Catholic Church has remained at the very core of the Charlotte community – supporting people, charities, and school programmes to grow their faith. The acoustically challenging space meant the sound was having a direct impact on their services, which is why EDC was the natural choice for breaking down all reverb barriers.

Initial Brief

The reverb time in this church created such a problem for the parish that they needed professional audio services to step up to the challenge. That's where EDC came in.

Problem

Having complete control over where sound is aimed is paramount to achieving intelligibility of the space. The church had 6 speakers up on the ceiling, and since they were so far away from the listener, they could hear multiple speakers all arriving at different times.

Solutions

Preserving the integrity of the building was important to the parish – meaning audio panels were a no-go. To accommodate this, we minimized reflections more than any speaker made from a single location, covering the entire floor.

Outcomes

‍This transformation has allowed for an elevated near field sounding system in a highly ambient room. The system also provides a significant increase of the gain available before feedback, making system operation for the engineers a whole lot easier.
